WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Violence Prevention Specialist in the Violence Prevention program of Gulf Coast JFCS is a non-exempt position responsible for developing and planning unique, effective, and comprehensive strategies for the implementation and teaching of the Second Step, SEL curriculum school-wide through classroom instruction, small groups and teacher/parent training. Based on training and experience, must be able to independently identify and assess children who have the potential to benefit from small group participation for their eligibility and effectively communicate with parents, teachers and administrators concerning the student’s progress. Must be able to analyze situations thoroughly and reach independent decisions in order to be a resource for teachers and parents seeking guidance for a student with poor social skills. Onsite Location: Tyrone Middle School

  • Provide Second Step curriculum through classroom instruction to 6th grade classes with the goal of increasing pro-social skills while decreasing the acceptance of violence in student attitude.
  • Ensure that all children receiving violence prevention classroom instruction and participating in skill groups complete all surveys and forms required by Gulf Coast and the Juvenile Welfare Board (JWB).
  • Provide quality services and maintain desired productivity level as defined by the Program Director in accordance with the service levels and measurable objectives required by the Juvenile Welfare Board (JWB). These will be determined at the start of each school year.
  • Provide skill-building groups and on-going support to a minimum of 116 students annually with the goal of eliminating referrals for those students.
  • Ensure all referrals are approved and signed by the Student Services Team designee.
  • Ensure all parent consents (PCS 2821 & GC) are returned before starting a student in group.
  • Keep the Student Services Team and Principal aware of students receiving skill-building services by providing a list of students in group each quarter.
  • Work cooperatively with the on-site Group Specialist to ensure that high-need students referred for service are prioritized (if applicable).
  • Provide in-service training to a minimum of 10 school staff during the year to encourage reinforcement of the Second Step curriculum and appropriate utilization of services.
  • Ensure concise and timely completion of all paperwork and documentation, including obtaining parent consent forms, and the collection of demographic information and testing that must be entered into the data reporting system.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Must have a bachelor's degree, preferably in the related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year direct experience with at-risk youth.
  • Must have experience with use of Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective teaching both large and small groups
